When we don’t understand what’s going on for our client, when our theories, tools and experience don’t seem to be helping, we have ourselves.

This experiential workshop aims to build confidence in learning to trust ourselves to truly be with our clients by consciously using our personality, insights and presence to facilitate growth and make space for those healing human to human moments in sessions.

What is therapeutic Use of Self and why it is important?

The therapeutic use of self which can be defined as: “the self-aware intertwining of both our professional self (the one that uses knowledge, skills and techniques) and our personal self (which arises from our history, beliefs/values, personality and embodied lived experience). It involves our therapeutic practices that we’ve learned and our particular way of maintaining a caring, attuned, holding presence. In other words, therapeutic use of self involves the totality of our being and doing; it is present in our every intervention. Dr Linda Finlay

How We Work

Initial Contact

After initial contact by phone or email we will arrange to meet you for an assessment. Your initial session will allow us to meet and get to know each other and begin to explore the concerns you want to bring to therapy. This will help you decide if we feel like the right people for you and we will also assess if we are the right people to meet your needs.

1

First Session

We will agree when and how often we will meet, we normally offer 1 or 2 weekly sessions of 50 minutes each. Together we will review on a regular basis how the therapy is progressing to check that your needs are being met.

2

Our Experience

We have experience working within the NHS, public and voluntary sectors, as well as running busy private practices. We work within a diverse cultural community with a range of different people from many walks of life, backgrounds and circumstances.
